Dan Lawren is a veteran of film and video post-production with 24 years of experience. He began his career digitizing analog and digital video, gaining invaluable experience in the intricacies of video formats and their function. He has spent thousands of hours editing video/audio materials for a multitude of purposes including clarifying and enhancing images using a wide variety of techniques (enlarging, cropping, adjusting contrast and playback speed, etc.), synchronizing video footage from multiple cameras and angles (side by side presentations with and without audio) and creating still images to highlight details. In the process he has gained expert knowledge in video frame rates and shutter speeds and how they affect what is and is not recorded and visible, as well as various camera makes and models, video formats and compression schemes and how they impact video resolution. His work involves the use of an array of professional grade software. He is also adept at enhancing recorded audio for clarity and best quality playback.
Prior to working with attorneys, as a video editor he specialized in the "True Crime" genre and edited, clarified and enhanced video footage from a variety of surveillance cameras (city cameras, private security systems and cell phones) as well as accompanying audio recordings. He has created programming for clients that include Investigation Discovery, CNBC, PBS, Oxygen and Paramount. His work in these areas has continued for attorneys within the context of their legal cases, where video recordings have become increasingly common and important.
He is adept at using a variety of Non-Linear Editing software such as Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. He is also well-versed in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop along with audio software Pro Tools, Audition and Audacity, and numerous other third-party and opensource applications for enhancing audio and video.
Dan is both technically proficient and creative. He is sought out by attorneys, production companies and clients because of his attention to detail, timely and thorough execution of tasks requested as well as his easy going approach. His collaborations with attorneys have been on a range of cases from misdemeanors to felonies, including murder cases. His work has been helpful in shifting arguments based upon the clarification of images as well as the revealing of details previously unnoticed or difficult to decipher.
Lucidity Video Solutions is here to help attorneys better understand what information is actually contained in video/audio recordings, the possibilities of enhancing or clarifying them, and doing so when appropriate and requested. It is often just as important to understand what the opposing side (prosecution or defense or other party to a civil action) may be able to see or hear if they utilize their own expert, and we provide that service as well. We are available for all criminal and civil cases.
Dan has done great work for me on several homicide cases. He is easy to communicate with and does high quality work in a very prompt manner. His video enhancements have helped me develop more powerful defenses in some cases and even persuade the prosecution to my perspective in one case. I highly recommend working with him!
